Coaching Registration

Thank you for volunteering to coach with Great Valley/Phoenixville. Our program would not be possible if not for the time and effort of our parents. In order to comply with USA Hockey and Pennsylvania mandates all coaches are required to:

  1. A valid USA Hockey Confirmation Number (either as a Coach or Volunteer) for the 2023-2024 season;

  2. Up to Date SafeSport certification;

  3. Up to Date USA Hockey Background Clearances;

  4. Up to Date PA Act 15 Volunteer clearances (including the FBI Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Background Check).

Coaches are also encouraged to complete their USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) Certification and appropriate age-specific training modules.

Step 1:

USA Hockey Membership

Sign up/renew your membership with USA Hockey for the 2023-2024 season, you will need your USA Hockey Confirmation Number when registering. You will need to register either as a Coach/Player or Volunteer/Manager. There is a fee for registering as a Coach/Player member type.

Step 2:

SafeSport Training

Complete or update your SafeSport Training from the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Effective with the 2022-2023 season, you will need to take the SafeSport Core Training or Refresher Course each year prior to participation. Access to SafeSport training is now through the USA Hockey MyHockeyHQ Portal. Please note, you will need to enter your USA Hockey confirmation number when accessing your profile to complete your training. There is no fee for SafeSport training/certification. If you have not already signed up/renewed your USA Hockey membership you will need to do so prior to completing this step.

Step 3:

USA Hockey Background Screening

All Coaches must receive their USA Hockey Background clearance through NCSI. USA Hockey is now conducting background screening on a national basis through NCSI. You can access the NCSI website via the link on the USA Hockey Screening page. There is a fee associated with the background screening.

Step 4:

Ensure your PA Volunteer Clearances are still valid

While USA Hockey has background checks through NCSI, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires additional background clearances for anyone who volunteers with children. This includes the FBI Criminal History Background Check, the Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance and the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check. These are the same clearances that are required for volunteering in schools, which need to be renewed every 5 years. You will need to upload copies of your screening certificates when registering through TeamSnap, so make sure they are up to date.

Step 5:

Complete your Registration through the Great Valley TeamSnap website. Note, you will need to enter your USA Hockey confirmation and will need PDF copies of your additional clearances for PA when completing your registration.

Optional:

USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) Certification

All Coaches are encouraged to obtain their CEP certification card and to complete the appropriate age-specific training modules. Please see the USA Hockey website for more information about obtaining your Coaching Certification. There are fees associated with the certification clinics and age modules. Note: you must be registered with USA Hockey as a Coach/Player member type in order to sign up for CEP Certification Courses. If you previously had signed up as a Volunteer/Manager, you will need to register again as a Coach.
